The Royal Palace of Caserta (Reggia di Caserta) is an 18th-century Bourbon royal residence, and its highlights are the Royal Apartments, the Grand Staircase (Scalone d’onore), the Palatine Chapel, the Court Theatre and the Great Gallery, plus the gardens behind the palace. Plan about two and a half hours indoors and the rest of the day for the park. Opening times change by month, so check the opening hours page before you go.

The official site confirms the following parts of the visit. We describe only what is documented, so for room-by-room detail use the museum’s own pages at reggiadicaserta.cultura.gov.it.
Royal Apartments
These are the heart of the palace visit and the part covered by the main ticket. In October they are open from 8:30 to 19:15, with the last entry at 18:15. The museum warns that, when staff are short, part of the route can be closed.
Grand Staircase (Scalone d’onore)
The monumental staircase and the upper vestibule lead you up to the apartments.
Palatine Chapel
The Palatine Chapel has its own opening times (in October, 8:30 to 18:15, last entry 18:10). Mass is held every Sunday from 11:00 to 12:00, so if you visit then, expect the service to take priority.
Court Theatre
The Court Theatre is the one that needs planning. In October it opens only on Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 to 13:00, with the last entry at 12:45, run by Touring Club Italiano volunteers. It is closed on free-admission days.
Great Gallery and Vanvitelli Rooms
The Great Gallery (Gran Galleria) and the Vanvitelli Rooms (Sale Vanvitelli) are part of the visit, but on the free first Sunday of the month the Gran Galleria and the Vanvitelli and Amelio rooms are closed.
What is a good order for the visit?
The right order depends on the season, because the Royal Apartments close at 19:15 all year, while the park and English Garden close earlier (see the hours table). From April to September the park closes at 19:00 and either order works. From October to March, do the outdoor part first. The one exception is the Court Theatre: in October it opens only on Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 to 13:00, so at the weekend see it first thing in the morning, then follow the order for your season:
- Enter at Piazza Carlo di Borbone, which gives access to the palace, park and English Garden.
- On a Saturday or Sunday, see the Court Theatre first (10:00 to 13:00, last entry 12:45).
- In autumn and winter, go to the park next, then the English Garden, keeping their last entries in mind: in October the park’s last entry is 16:30 and the garden’s is 16:00, while in November and December the park closes at 15:30. Read our guide to the Royal Park and English Garden.
- Then the palace: Grand Staircase, Royal Apartments, Palatine Chapel and the other rooms on the route. The apartments stay open until 19:15.
From April to September you can instead start with the palace and go to the park afterwards.
